a symbol of rebirth & transformation, the cauldron is one the most sacred artifacts of the samhain tradition. pagans believe the fire serves as a "portal" between us & the otherworld. the celtic goddess, cerridwen, is believed to be the keeper of the cauldron.
in ancient celtic times, the cauldron was used for divination & honoring the dead. the women of the village prepared food for their families in cauldrons over open flames in the hearth of the home. they would gather food from the season's harvest & prepare the "feast of the dead" to honor loved ones who have pased on (and who's spirits might be visiting during samhain)
